Switching phones without losing your notes

If you haven't used JW Library on the new phone yet

This is the simple case, and JW Library's built-in backup and restore handles it on its own — no third-party tool needed.

1. On your old phone, open JW Library, go to Personal Study (or Settings), then Backup and Restore, then Create a Backup.
2. Transfer the .jwlibrary file to your new phone — email, cloud storage, or a cable all work.
3. On the new phone, install JW Library, go to Backup and Restore, then Restore a Backup, and select the file.

If you've already been using JW Library on the new phone

This is the case that trips people up. If you've already added notes or highlights on the new phone, a straight restore from the old phone will overwrite them — you'd end up with only the old phone's data, not both.

To keep everything from both devices, you need to merge the two backups instead of restoring one over the other:

1. Create a backup on the old phone, and a separate backup on the new phone.
2. Get both .jwlibrary files onto one device.
3. Open JW Fusion and add both files, then merge them into one combined backup.
4. Restore that merged file on the new phone (and the old one too, if you want them to match).

Either way, it's worth creating a backup before you do anything else — it costs nothing and gives you a safety net if a transfer doesn't go the way you expect.
